National Honor Society (NHS)

NHS Invitation Guidelines and Course Requirements

Members of the junior and senior class who have achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale may be invited to apply for provisional membership in National Honor Society during the first quarter of the school year. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of scholarship, service, leadership, and character when being considered for admittance.

NOTE: Once a student accepts an invitation to be a member (provisional or inducted) of the NHS, failure to meet the course requirements described below during each semester of their membership, will result in being placed on probation prior to being permanently removed from the NHS.

Each year NHS members (provisional or inducted) are required to be enrolled, and earn credit, in courses equaling four full-year credits from the list of courses below to remain eligible for membership.

Upon acceptance to the NHS, students will have access to an electronic copy of the complete chapter bylaws, at their first meeting. However, to assure they are on track academically, we have included a list of the approved NHS courses offered at WHS below. Per the bylaws, candidates’ coursework shall show progress toward graduating on-time and courses taken shall be regarded as college preparatory in nature. Therefore, all NHS members (provisional or inducted) are required to be enrolled and receive credit in courses equaling four full-year credits from the list of courses below.

NHS Approved Courses (College-Preparatory Program)

Juniors and seniors must take at least four of these classes each semester (or meet the PSEO requirements)
