Westonka Boys Golf Takes Third at Litchfield Invite

Senior Dillon Peterson helped the White Hawks to third place at the Litchfield Invitational.
The Westonka boys golf team turned in a third-place finish at the Litchfield Invitational and continued its schedule with meets at Becker, Hutchinson and Hopkins, facing strong fields throughout the week.
At Litchfield Golf Club on April 13, Westonka placed third out of 16 teams in windy conditions with temperatures in the 50s. Delano took the team title. Senior Luke Sunnarborg led the way with an 80, earning a top-10 finish. Junior Chase Lee added an 83, while seniors Logan Hill and Dillon Peterson each shot 84 to round out Westonka’s top four.
The White Hawks competed next at the Becker Bulldog Invite on April 16 at Pebble Creek Golf Club. In a 20-team field that included defending Class AA state champion Detroit Lakes, Sunnarborg improved to a 76 to secure another top-10 finish. Hill continued his steady play with an 82, while senior Wes Foley contributed an 83. Lee rounded out the top four with an 88.
Westonka was scheduled to compete again on April 17 at Crow River Golf Club in Hutchinson in a 12-team invitational. The event was unfortunately cut short when a thunderstorm hit, amidst wind and temperatures in the 30s. Before play was suspended, Sunnarborg was at even par through six holes and was leading the field.
The team returned to action on April 20 at Oak Ridge Country Club in Hopkins, a challenging private course, in a 12-team event hosted by Blake. The field featured some of the top teams in the state, including Benilde-St. Margaret’s, the top-ranked Class AAA team, along with Southwest Christian and Blake, ranked second and third in Class AA. Sunnarborg led Westonka once again with an 82. After a difficult start on the front nine, he rebounded with a 37 on the back, showing an impressive ability to recover. Sophomore Erik Flom posted an 89, while seniors Wes Foley and Dillon Peterson, along with sophomore Leif Kellner each added rounds of 87.
Facing strong competition and challenging conditions early in the season, Westonka has shown both depth and resilience as it continues to build momentum.
