Westonka Boys Tennis Teams Take Flight
The White Hawks boys varsity tennis team weathered a tough opening stretch, battling cold temps and strong opponents. After a tight 3-4 loss to Holy Family and challenging matches against Chanhassen (0-7) and SW Christian (0-7), this young team refused to let early setbacks define them.
Their breakthrough came on April 15 in a thrilling 4-3 win over Waconia. The match came down to doubles, where senior Ben Pruitt and sophomore Charlie Weaver delivered under pressure to clinch the victory. The win injected new energy into the lineup as they headed north to Hibbing on April 18. There, the White Hawks narrowly fell 3-4 in another competitive battle. The following morning brought their toughest challenger yet, facing the number 2-ranked Rock Ridge. Doubles partners, Sammy Seiler and Rylan Gusenius, were able to sneak in a win, bringing the team score to 1-6. On April 21, the same duo of eighth graders, along with sophomore Joey Asche playing at 4 singles, won their matches against a strong Litchfield team, resulting in a 2-5 loss for the team.
The Westonka JV squad has been a force to be reckoned with, stacking wins and growing more confident with every match. They opened the season with a nail‑biter against Chanhassen, edging out a 4-3 win.
Momentum kept rolling with a strong 5-2 win over SW Christian, highlighted by doubles teams that communicated seamlessly and controlled the pace from start to finish. The squad then delivered a statement match - a dominant 7-0 sweep of Waconia - showcasing just how deep this JV roster is. This stellar team is undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record! Coaches are applauding the group’s focus, chemistry, and competitive fire, all of which point to a standout season ahead.
Both squads have already shown grit, growth, and flashes of brilliance. With tight matches, rising confidence, and plenty of season left, Westonka tennis fans have every reason to stay excited. These White Hawks are just getting started.
