Westonka Track and Field Takes Third at WCC East Championship

The Westonka track and field team competed at the WCC East Championship Meet on May 12 at Jordan High School. The White Hawks came ready to compete, with both the boys and girls teams claiming third place. Jordan took first place for the boys and Delano took top honors for the girls.

For the girls, seventh grader Raelyn Moslander outpaced the entire field in a back-and-forth race, earning first place in the 1,600m with a personal best time of 5:23.37 and claiming All-Conference honors. The White Hawks girls were also led by second-place finishes from ninth grader Lexi Thelen in the 100m sprint, sophomore Grace Schrempp in the discus, junior Annika Christoph in the pole vault, junior Sami Christensen in the long jump, and senior Erica Johnson in the triple jump.

The Westonka girls demonstrated strong team depth with a series of top six finishes. Securing third-place spots were senior Lexie Rehman in the high jump, junior Sophia Engesser in the 1,600m, and the 4x400m relay team of H Hoag, R Moslander, E Johnson, and M Johnson. Earning fourth place were senior Delaney Parker in the shot put and freshman Hadley Hoag in the triple jump. Senior Morgan Johnson placed fourth in the 300m hurdles and sixth in the 100m sprint. Junior Adrianne Givens placed fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put. In the long jump, ninth grader Lexi Thelen placed fifth and Erica Johnson placed sixth. Eighth grader Violet placed sixth in the 400m.

For the boys, senior Andrew Hoisington led the way, earning first place with a personal best throw of 50’ 0.5” in the shot put and claiming All-Conference honors. Earning valuable team points with second-place finishes were ninth grader Samuel Santiago in the 200m and junior Julian Herkelman in the triple jump, as well as third place in the long jump.

The White Hawks boys had a strong showing of top-six finishes, starting and ending the meet in style with third-place finishes from the 4x800m relay team of R Shaffer, D Carlson, L Hays, and R Chilson and the 4x400m relay team of G Thelen, M French, S Santiago, M French. Junior Drew Carlson raced to third place in the 800m and ninth grader Andrew Regenold threw to third place in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Placing fourth were senior Gavin Thelen in the 400m and freshman Sam Trombley in the pole vault. Senior Mason Merritt placed fifth in the 110m hurdles and sixth in the 300m hurdles. Placing sixth were sophomore Ethan McDonald in the 300m hurdles, sophomore Rayne Shaffer in the 1600m, and seventh grader Ryder Michels in the pole vault. 

The White Hawks will compete next in the Section 2AA Championship Meet May 26 and 28 at Delano High School.
