White Hawks Boys Golf Concludes 2026 Season with Sections, Banquet

The Westonka boys golf team concluded its season at the Section 5AA Tournament on May 28 and June 1 at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.

Competing in sunny conditions with temperatures in the 80s, Westonka finished sixth in a 16-team field on the opening day of competition, narrowly missing advancement to the final round. The White Hawks finished just three strokes behind the fourth-place team, with only the top four teams advancing. The opening round featured 96 golfers, with the field cut to 40 players for day two.

Seniors Luke Sunnarborg and Logan Hill, and sophomore Leif Kellner all qualified individually for the final round. Sunnarborg led Westonka with rounds of 80 and 80. Kellner delivered two of his best rounds of the season, shooting an 82 on day one and a season-best 79 on day two, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. Hill followed his opening-round 81 with an 83 in the final round.

Senior Wes Foley contributed an 81 on day one. Sophomore Erik Flom shot an 85, highlighted by three birdies. Junior Chase Lee added an 88 and closed his round strong, improving from 47 on the front nine to 41 on the back.

The tournament was won by Totino-Grace, which captured its sixth consecutive Section 5AA championship. The Eagles shot 13-under par in the final found. Legacy Christian Academy finished second.

The season officially came to a close on June 3 when the team gathered for its banquet at Crooked Water Golf Club in Mound. Captains Luke Sunnarborg and Dillon Peterson reflected on the season and shared words of encouragement for future White Hawks golfers.

The banquet also celebrated the team's 17 seniors and recognized individual accomplishments. All-Conference awards were highlighted for Luke Sunnarborg and Wes Foley, with Erik Flom earning All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Sunnarborg was awarded Academic All State and honored as a two-time Pioneer Cup champion, a three-time state tournament participant, a four-time All-Conference selection, and a five-year letter winner. He will continue his golf career this fall at Luther College, where he will compete for the Norse.

The White Hawks closed the season with several standout performances, continued improvement throughout the lineup, and a senior class that leaves a lasting impact on the program.
