Westonka Speech Team Crowned Wright County Conference Champs

The Westonka Speech Team has been crowned Wright County Conference Champion, after earning top honors February 26 at New London-Spicer High School. Students delivered a dominant performance to secure first place overall as a team in an incredible display of talent and hard work.

In addition to the team title, Westonka is proud to celebrate seven individual All-Conference Champions who placed first in their categories.

  • Rory Wilson, 9th grade, Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Carly Durr, 12th grade, Great Speeches
  • Maren Eich, 9th grade, Original Oratory
  • Hannah Christenson, 12th grade, Serious Poetry
  • Orrin Butterfield, 11th grade, Storytelling

“The depth of our team was on full display, as many other students also earned medals and contributed vital points to our championship victory,” said coach Megan Lhotka. “Congratulations to the entire team on this historic achievement!”

Westonka Speech has a number of competitions lined up over the next month, leading up to the Section 2AA Speech Tournament on April 18.

The team's success is a testament to the dedication of the speakers and the exceptional leadership of coaches Megan Lhotka, Katherine Kreger, Heidi Richardson Duggan, Kelsey Rausch, and Scott Lhotka.
